If you need legal services, but do not want to spend a lot of money for legal document preparation, the next best thing you can do is look into local paralegal services. These days, every city or town should have local paralegal services for clients seeking their services. Now, just like an attorney, a paralegal has to be trained and certified. Paralegals can either obtain a two year or four year paralegal degree and certification. Paralegal students can attend a two year or four year college where they take courses in tort law, contract law, business law, civil procedure law, case law and various disciplines within the legal field. Paralegals go my various names to. They can be referred to as a legal assistant, legal secretary or simply a paralegal. Once a paralegal student has completed their degree, they can decide to work for a private or corporate company, government agency, and small or large law firm or be self-employed. Without local paralegal services, a lot of people would not know where else to turn to for help in filling out legal documents for their particular case; much less know how and where to file legal documents once complete. Even though paralegals have gone through paralegal training through a two year or four year college, and know the law to some extent, they are not allowed to give legal advice. If ever a client asks for legal advice, a paralegal working with local paralegal services must refer their client to an attorney.
