Will the iPhone 5 Be Unveiled in September?

If you're one of the many people waiting for the much-anticipated release of the iPhone 5, then you are going to love this. According to Apple blog iMore, their reliable sources have revealed that the new iPhone will be unveiled on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, and will hit the shelves 9 days later on September 21st. iMore states that the "information comes from sources who have proven accurate in the past."

iMore is also speculating that the "iPad mini", a 7.85" inch tablet will also be announced on September 12. This device first made an appearance in the blogosphere earlier this year. According to The Next Web, John Gruber of Daring Fireball said that Apple has a 7.85 inch tablet in its labs. TechCrunch also reported that the iPad mini "is said to be the same thickness as the iPod touch 4G, with a screen measuring 7.85-inches."

Of course, we won't know for sure if these speculations turn out to be true, until we get an official memo from Apple, but according to VenutreBeat, iMore has pretty good track record when it comes to Apple predictions. Apparently, the above-mentioned Apple blog "correctly predicted both the iPad 3 launch and iPhone 4S pre-order dates in the past."

Anyway, for those dying to know what to expect when Apple finally makes its iPhone 5 announcement, below is a quick roundup of the latest iPhone rumors to hit the blogosphere.

New Housing Design + Centered Frontal Camera

TechCrunch cited Japanese Mac blog Macotakara when it published videos and images of the iPhone 5 (supposed) Housings. The video and images show that the iPhone housing will have a two-tone finish. Additionally, it looks like the new iPhone will have a centered Facetime camera, just above the speaker grill.

A Smaller Dock

Earlier this month, Reuters published an article stating that familiar sources have informed them that the new iPhone "will come with a 19-pin connector port at the bottom instead of the proprietary 30-pin port" in order to accommodate "the earphone moving to the bottom."

If this is true, then it would mean that the new iPhone will not be able to connect to devices and speakers that were made for the old dock. And while this would definitely annoy consumers, Pete Cunningham, an analyst at research firm Canalys told Reuters that it would good for business because "It represents an opportunity for accessory vendors"

Just Rumors

Apple is still acting very secretive about its future products and hasn't made anything official. According to CNET, when analysts asked CEO Tim Cook about future products, all he said was "It's difficult to sort out. I am fairly convinced that there's an incredible anticipation out there for a future product. And as you would expect given what we would be able to deliver in the past...it's a reasonable amount. In terms of channel inventory, we put our current thinking in the guidance (CFO Peter Oppenheimer) provided you."

Needless to say, the above speculations should always be taken with a grain of salt. Just because you read it in prominent blog, doesn't make it true, so don't go buying yourself a brand new iPhone 5 case just yet, until Apple has confirmed how the device will really look like.

While these rumors and indeed very interesting, just think of them as some forms entertainment that can keep you busy while you're waiting for the real thing.
