Learn, Teach, and Share Knowledge with Skillshare

Ever wanted to learn a new skill? Or maybe you've already mastered one and you want to monetize it by sharing your knowledge with other people? If you found yourself nodding your head to the above questions, you should check out Skillshare.

Skillshare is a website that provides an avenue for individuals to share and pick up new skills and knowledge. It's "a marketplace to take and teach classes" and it is run by a community of students and teachers who are all passionate about collaborative learning.

About the Classes

There are two types of classes on Skillshare: Local Classes and Hybrid Classes. The former involves in-person meetings where teachers and students come together for the class. The latter on the other hand, is a combination of in-person and online learning. On top of local meet-ups, Hybrid classes will involve online collaborating as well.

The "tuition fee" for Skillshare classes, varies depending on the teacher, subject matter, and type of class. According to the Skillshare website, "an individual class may cost about $30, with multi-session classes costing from $100 and up. In general, Skillshare classes are orders of magnitude cheaper than their traditional equivalents at big universities and education centers."

Skillshare offers classes under three main categories, namely: Creative Arts, Culinary Arts, Entrepreneurship, Lifestyle, and Technology. At the time of writing this, there are more than 60 local classes in all over the US and three Hybrid classes.

For Teachers

If you have certain skills or knowledge to share, you can head to the Skillshare website and create a class. The first step is to choose whether you're teaching a Hybrid Class or Creating a Local Class. You can apply to teach, submit your information, and when you're qualified, Skillshare will help you design and list your class on the site.

By being a teacher on Skillshare, you'll be given a chance to share your skills and knowledge in a meaningful and effective way. You'll get to connect with students more, since you'll be giving hands on instructions and answering questions first hand. Doing so not only makes the learning process so much easier, but it also makes the whole experience so much more rewarding for both parites.

If you don't quite know how to teach or if you're not sure how the Skillshare process works, you can take the "How To Teach a Skillshare Class" course on the site. The class will walk you through the whole process, and by the end of it, you'll have "your own Skillshare class posted."

For Students

Looking to pick up a new skill? Head to the "Learn" section on Skillshare and browse the available classes. You can choose to sort classes by City and find any upcoming workshops in your area, or you can browse by category and search for classes based on what you want to learn. The Skillshare site does a pretty good job in organizing classes, and it lets you sort them according to date, type, and popularity.
