Top 5 DIY Thanksgiving Decorations

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and there's nothing like having some great decorations to cover your house with. This is the best chance to take some time and concoct some do-it-yourself crafts to make nice decorations that are easy, non-expensive and perfect to do with the family. Luckily, most of these will include using things that you may already have laying around the house and things you can make look really good.

1. Candy Corn Flower Pot - This may seem like a bit of a strange idea, but the look of this candy corn flower pot will add a bit of flare to your home that nobody will expect. Take a dish, small vase or something similar and fill it with a bag of candy corn to make a base and give it the color that it needs. Then, add in an arrangement of your choice and be creative; add fall colors, your favorite plant/flowers and you will have a nice decoration for your house.

2. Candleholders - You may be asking yourself, "What is so special about candleholders?" Well, it's not the fact of having a candleholder; it is the method in which you make the candleholder unique that will grab the attention of those around you. If you have a small pumpkin lying around, drill out the center and place a candle in the center. Decorate around the candle and you'll have a nice new candleholder that everybody will admire.

3. Colored Pinecones Hangers - If you find some pinecones around outside (and they are perfect for a fall theme), they can become a stunning decoration for the house. Take the pinecones, paint them with colors that make you think of fall (dark brown, green, yellow, etc.) and string them up to hang where ever you want them. The colors will add a nice touch and you will receive a ton of compliments for the creativity.

4. Corn Wreath - This one may have you wondering what exactly it is and how to make it, but in reality, it is extremely simple to make and very impressive to look at. All you will need is a Styrofoam wreath, black duct tape, either candy or Indian corn and a hot glue gun. Cover the wreath with the black duct tape, arrange the candy or Indian corn and attach them with the hot glue gun and hang it on your door any way you please.

5. Fall Lantern - Using a jar, Mod Podge, a candle and some fall leaves from outside, you can make a beautiful lantern to give off the perfect ambiance in the room. Take the leaves, press them nice and flat and then glue them to a clean glass jar using the Mod Podge. After awhile, layer another coat of Mod Podge to seal the leaves and place the candle in the jar when you're ready. With the different colored leaves, you will give the perfect, subtle, warm glow you'd love for the fall season.
