Top 5 Ways Things You Can Do to Be Instantly Grateful

Feeling down in the dumps? Think you don't have anything to be thankful for this Thanksgiving? If so, check out the following tips below, that are proven to be pretty effective when it comes to injecting the Thanksgiving spirit into people.

1. Look through old photos - Rummage through your albums or (let's be more realistic) whip out your camera phone / digicam and go through your pictures. It may sound cheesy, but why not reminisce on those fond memories that you caught on cam? Browse your albums and think about the days that you took those memorable photos and try to remember what made you take a picture in the first place. You're bound to come across some wonderful moments that you forgot about, and you're certainly bound to find good things and events to be thankful for.

2. Check out old Facebook wall posts - Often, friends post stuff on your Facebook wall because they have something funny or important to share. Find these posts and read through them. They might give you a chuckle, or at least make you smile. Similar to looking at old photos, reading past wall posts can trigger happy memories and fun moments that are definitely worth being grateful for. Can't find any funny or memorable posts? Scroll back down to the day that you celebrated your birthday and read the several birthday wishes from your friends. Doing so will remind you that there are many people that care about you. And even if some of them may not have remembered your birthday if not for Facebook, know that everyone who posted on your wall cared enough to actually type up a birthday greeting (no matter how short it may be).

3. Help the less fortunate - Nothing conjures up gratitude like the act of giving back and doing good deeds. Find a local shelter or donate some money to a cause that you care about. Helping the less fortunate allows you to remember just how lucky you are. While others are struggling to put a roof over their heads, you are lucky enough to have the resources to actually read blog posts such as this one. What's more, helping other people can really make you feel good about yourself and make you feel more useful and more thankful.

4. Clean your room - Do you have some junk accumulated in your closet? Do yourself (and your closet) a favor and clean that stuff up. For one thing, you might even come across some items that could bring back great memories (i.e. movie stubs, receipts, etc). Getting your hands on these things can definitely put you in a better and more thankful mood. Moreover, when you're done cleaning, you'll definitely feel more at ease, since you were able to tidy up a messy room-and that right there is something to thankful for.

5. Spend Thanksgiving with people you love - Finally, another sure fire way to get into the Thanksgiving spirit is to spend time with your loved ones. Celebrate the fact that you're all together, and that you get to share food and experiences on that one day.
