5 Not-So-Common Gift Ideas for the Holidays

Ahh the holidays. It's that period of the year again when we bring out our outerwear, make plans to spend time with loved ones, and of course, exchange presents. If you already made your Christmas list, don't make any final details on what to give people yet. (Hey, you have to check your list twice right?)

Below are a few unique gift ideas that go beyond impersonal gift certificates and typical stuff at department stores. If you really want to give a gift that your giftees will remember, we recommend looking into some of these gift suggestions:

Items with their favorite animal in it - Monogramed items and coffee mugs with their name are cute and all, but this year, why not go beyond text or words. Instead be more... illustrative. Does your brother like they like Siberian huskies? Get them a watch or a blanket with huskies in it. Are Persian cats the favorite breed of Aunt Sue? Get her a nice throw or maybe an apron with those adorable felines. Be creative. And be detailed. Think about particular things and animal breeds that they love. The more specific you are, the better. And the more unusual item is, the more likely they'll remember you for it.

A donation in their name for their favorite charity -Do you want to give back during the holiday season? Do you anyone who volunteers their time and money to a particular cause or charity? Then consider making a donation in their name for that cause. They'll definitely appreciate it, and for sure, all the people (or animals or the environment) that the donation's for will be extremely grateful as well. It is the season for giving, and it would be the perfect time to offer help to the less fortunate.

Lottery tickets - Know any gamblers or lotto fans in you clan or circle of friends? Of course you do. Everyone knows at least one person who gets themselves a lottery ticket every week. Certainly a gift that would save them the money and trip to do so would be much appreciated. Choose a bunch of lucky numbers for them, or be creative and mix up several scratchers. They'll definitely enjoy them, and who knows, if they win a huge cash prize, they might even throw a huge cut your way. So keep those fingers crossed and hope for a win-win!

A themed box of goodies - Can't decide on one present? Then why not take a bunch of little goodies and compile them for your giftee? Select items that fall under a specific theme. For instance, if they like a particular basketball team, compile a number of merchandise with that team's name on it and give those as your present. Maybe they're a fan of the color green. If so, then, select items in that color. Be thoughtful and creative. Consider mixing up a bunch of practical and decorative items to spice up your present.

A "stuff from home" package - This is a wonderful idea if you're giving a present to someone who lives away from home. Whether it's a long distance relationship, or a relative that moved way, they will really appreciate a goodie bag from home. Put cookies from that bake shop that can only be found in your town. Throw in a calendar showcasing the many scenes in your locale. Why not add in a newspaper or magazine specific to city? Again, be as thoughtful as you can. For sure, a gift like this would give them that warm and fuzzy feeling that we all need during this holiday season.
