Trying to find a parking spot can waste a lot of time and gas. It can even make you late for an important event or a business meeting. Living in a crowded urban area where parking is scarce makes things even more difficult. Why not save yourself the unnecessary stress of finding the last open space by opting for valet parking instead? People in sparsely populated areas may not be very familiar with the concept of valet parking. This is a luxury service offered my most high end restaurants, retailers, hotels, airports, and other businesses that cater to wealthy clientele. Valets are usually employees of the business itself or of the building itself. Their job is to help customers out of their cars, take their car keys, and find them a parking place nearby. Once the customer is done with whatever he or she came to do, the valet must locate the vehicle and bring it back to him or her in the same condition as before. This meant the customer has to place a lot of trust is the valet. Valet jobs have an unusually high turnover rate because so many problems can occur. Well to do clients are generally difficult to please as they expect impeccable service at all times. Consequently, valets are often fired for minor issues such as lateness or rudeness. Theft is another frequent complaint; it's easy to see that rich people probably leave expensive items in their cars that valets may be tempted to steal. Valets must have spotless driving records for insurance reasons, and can be terminated for any work or non-employment related accidents. Still, valet parking has advantages for both parties because valets can park the cars in order to optimize the amount of space available. It is customary to tip valet parking attendants for their labor because these tend to be low paying jobs.
