The title "Learning Center" as a generic term defines an educational establishment, such as a school. A local Learning Center can refer to the local bank, an Arborist's website, or even the library. Many types and classifications of Learning Centers listed online may or may not correlate directly with academic achievement. Any location, including the Internet, where the process of obtaining information occurs qualifies for that title or the even more generic term, learning resource. Learning Centers were possibly first popular in the 1970s in Open Classrooms. Each specialized subject of the curriculum, reading, math, gender roles, etc., had a specific area for study and hands on instructional projects and assignments. Some schools continue with the practice of such specialized instruction today. Many colleges and university have Learning Centers or learning labs on campus to facilitate student's educational experiences, especially as relates to technology and specialized equipment. Clinical labs for Science experiments, for example biological dissections, may also be found available for student use within a learning center or lab.
