As the sounds of Chopsticks and Beethoven fill the air, we are all entranced by the skill and suitability of music by piano. In todays society, the practice of utilizing local piano instruction has been met with the real problem of locating someone with the skills and materials to truly teach a rising star. Few areas offer local piano instruction which can even take a child into this world of expression, much less beyond the most basic skills. In years past, local piano instruction was found as closely as a neighbor or family member. Many families retained their own personal piano and brought an instructor directly into their home. After hundreds of years in which pianos have played a daily part in the lives of most families, they have recently faded to a skill which is practiced by the privileged few. When local piano instruction is utilized, the pupil is allowed to take advantage of the full potential which the instructor can convey. In particular, a student may call on the teacher of local piano instruction at any time that a question may arise as to a specific skill or assignment. With todays scarcity of instructors, it is often necessary for students of the piano art to accept a mentor with mediocre skills in order to enter this world of entertainment. Without the availability of local piano instruction, skilled students often need to travel in order to locate, much less utilize, the benefits inherent to working with someone locally.
