Asbestos is an extremely toxic chemical that is often found in building materials. It used to be a very common component in household insulation, vinyl floor tiles, glue, linoleum, window glazing, duct insulation, plaster, fiber cement, paint, heavy panels, siding, roof shingles, automotive materials, packaging, and as a fire retardant. Asbestos containing materials are not worrisome unless they are left exposed in open air. Still, some homeowners do not want to put themselves at an unnecessary risk and may choose to remove these hazardous materials even if they are not presenting an immediate danger. All homes that were built before 1975 should be inspected as soon as possible because asbestos use was common during that time period. In order to determine whether or not your household or business has asbestos materials within it, you will have to conduct a proper inspection. Some people choose to wait until there is an incident of possible exposure before paying for an inspection, but this puts people at risk for no good reason. While inspections do cost money, the price in a small one when compared to the negative impact asbestos exposure can have on your life or someone else's. Do it yourself inspection kits are strongly discouraged for obvious reasons. Asbestos inspection is a simple process, but it should only be conducted by a certified local professional. You will want to physically see the inspector's state issued license before you go any further. This is important to help avoid scams or other fraudulent services.
