There is a market for local structural engineers in all parts of the country. The job of local structural engineers is to go into a building once it is completed and decide by figuring out the sizes and shapes of various parts of the building what will be necessary in the way of roofs, floors, columns, etc. In other words local structural engineers make sure that once a building is up, it doesnt fall down. A good structural engineer will consider everything from the way the wind blows, how much it rains and/or snows in a particular area and how many people will occupy the building on any given day. Local structural engineers will make drawings of their calculations and findings and hand them over to a local contractor so that the contractor can develop further plans deciding on materials to use etc. to make the building safe and sound from top to bottom. If the contractor runs into any problems with the construction of a building when it comes to safety, he will immediately go to the local structural engineer and review protocol, codes and plans once again to make sure that construction is done properly following all the codes and guidelines. No one ever really sees the work of local structural engineers, because when all is said and done and the building(s) are finished, the work of the structural engineer is covered up for no one to see. But if something should go wrong with the structural integrity of the building and an accident occur (like the building collapsing) and you can be sure the local structural engineers will be the first ones called and put on the stand to testify as to what exactly went wrong.
