When you are thinking about purchasing a mobile home and financing it, you will have to think about mobile home insurance. Local mobile home insurance can at times be difficult to purchase. There are not a lot of companies who will insure mobile homes anymore. However, before getting discouraged there are companies that will write it. When financing the mobile home ask the finance company if they can and will insure it. You may have to pay a higher rate through the financer and a lot of things (i.e. contents of your mobile home, theft et cetera) usually are not covered under their insurance. A financer usually only insures their interest in the mobile home. When looking for local mobile home insurance, start with independent agents. In other words do not go for a company which has offices on every corner since most of them will not write mobile home insurance. Check around at several local mobile home insurance companies the first thing, of course, is to check the rates. Just as important is to check to see what the policy covers. Local mobile home insurance should cover things such as fire, theft, vandalism, floods from water pipes (surface water floods are not covered by any policy...only through the government agencies), and liability. There are no or very few local mobile home insurances that will cover the mobile home while in transit. If you happen to find one that does, you have just lucked up. The mover should provide the insurance for the mobile home while in transit.
