A garage door opener is a device that opens and closes garage doors. They are mostly controlled using a switch on the garage wall, as well as using a remote control that a person carries in their car. The garage door opener has been revised by adding additional features to make it more sophisticated. Few features have been added such as the installation of courtesy lights that turn on when the door opens and turns off when it is unattended and a wireless keypad located at the outside of the garage where a code is typed in order to open the garage plus the key chain remotes which are more compact than the regular remote control. Garage door openers can be purchased by your local garage dealer and they can also do the installation for you and guide you with instructions on operation and maintenance. In choosing a garage door opener, they are numerous options to consider. Garage door openers come with different drives: chain, belt, and screw. Chain-drive openers are the oldest style of garage door openers and it is still the most popular and very convenient. Sadly, chain-drive openers can be noisy and may not be a good option if the garage is close to a quiet room. A belt-drive opener is similar to chain-drive openers except that a rubber belt is used instead of a chain. Unlike chain-drive openers, belt-drive openers are the quietest type of garage door opener but they are a little more expensive than the chain-drive openers. In between are the screw-drive openers where it a do it yourself door opener and cost less on maintenance.
