Alcoholism is a serious addiction effecting thousands of people throughout the world. Alcohol addiction does not discriminate; it can affect the families, friendships and relationships of people from all walks of life and all economic and societal backgrounds. In the search for alcohol addiction recovery, there is no better source for information, support, resources and help than Alcoholics Anonymous. The services offered by Alcoholics Anonymous-commonly known as AA, include AA meetings, conventions, literature, and events where alcoholics can gather and offer support and advice. In the book simply titled Alcoholics Anonymous, alcoholics give their stories and experiences in the hopes of helping other members and soon-to-be members. The book also includes information on what you can do to engage in alcohol addiction recovery and treatment, as well as an article based on the medical view of alcoholism. This book is referred to as The Big Book. AA also offers the book, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions - commonly known in the AA community as the 12 by 12, in which there are 12 steps that every member of AA should adhere to, in order to ensure their full recovery. The twelve traditions, lists the Alcoholics Anonymous policies of conducting meetings, the non involvement of the press and media, the tradition of anonymity and the non use of financial sponsors or outside help. These books are used as informative literature, as well as guidelines for alcoholics in the journey of alcohol addiction recovery. It is important to know that recovery does not happen overnight. More often than not it is a drawn out process that lasts the alcoholic's whole life. Treatment is a lifetime commitment.
