Local dance companies are getting ready for the upcoming recital season. Recitals are generally end of the year productions for local dance companies. Recitals give students the opportunity to showcase their talents and skills they have learned throughout the year. Hundreds of students at each dance company with varying skills and ages are typically involved in these recitals. Local dance companies spend hours throughout the year practicing their particular pieces. For students, this often means spending five days a week dancing including dancing during nights, weekends and holidays. Most of these students have had to audition to earn a spot in a local dance company and therefore are used to the hard work and sacrifice it takes to be successful in their dancing career. Many of students are balancing school and/or work along with their busy dance schedule. However, their love of dance and performing pushes them to persevere. Local dance companies perform a variety of programs for their end of the year recital. Many companies perform classics like Cinderella while others perform not so common ones such as the musical, Hairspray. One local dance company plans on performing Peter Pan. In order to make the story realistic and come to life for the audience, many hours have been spent on the scenery and special effects. A pulley system has been built by parent volunteers to make the characters come to life and to try something that other local dance companies have not dared to try yet!
