A foundation inspection is a process where a new or existing foundation is inspected by an individual or a group to determine if the foundation passes the building safety measures and whether it is stable enough to withstand earthquakes. In this process, building owners hire a local foundation inspector to make sure that the foundation passes. It is passed on to either a home inspector, building code compliance inspectors (from the city), and general building contractors to make sure that they recognize possible foundation problems. Their job is very costly and dangerous and sometimes they even consult a foundation repair company or the foundation design engineer. Foundation inspections are conducted to identify and provide information on any possible dangerous conditions. There are many factors to consider in this process such as attendance to site conditions, the building movement and its history, type, location, and the cracking and movement. They are also accountable for any visible areas of the foundation and its defects. There are some instances where there are some conditions that are difficult to be seen. You local foundation inspector may suggest a further evaluation or a repair to solve the foundation problem. Some of the examples are removing the finished material that covers the foundation, outside excavation, or hiring a foundation repair company to supervise the foundation repairs, if necessary. They can also detect any structural defects that may or will occur when the foundation is not fixed right away.
