The medical field is a diverse one that has several sub-fields included; some of them include dentistry, veterinary medicine, Eye Nose and Throat, gynecology and many others. One of the important fields is that of surgery. Even more complex, the sub-field of surgery is large and it involves a great deal of smaller units. Among these smaller units is a complex but very important one; laser surgery. The explanation for, and requirement of laser surgery is quite simple; during surgery, a scalpel is used to create some sort of entrance point on the skin but laser surgeons use another method to create the entrance point; they use lasers. The chemistry that laser surgeons use involves the dissolution of the molecular bonds on the tissue that is being penetrated or cut. In most cases, laser surgeons tend to use this kind of surgery on the eye since it is very sensitive and cutting it is somewhat tricky. In such cases where the eye is involved, laser surgeons use this kind of technique to correct the defects of short or long sightedness, through a certain procedure called LASIK.
