There are appliance stores located all over the country as well as seemingly countless online distributors that offer wholesale prices. It makes sense that much of the same technology that has enabled the creation of myriad new appliances has also facilitated new platforms through which to sell these goods. Sears and the local hardware store are no longer the only places where it is possible to purchase an array of appliances. Rather, the consumer market for appliances and other home goods has diversified in such a way that there are stores in malls, specialty shops that only sell particular kinds of goods, and of course, online outlets where you can purchase appliances. There are quite a few manufacturers of appliances, including big names like Westinghouse and Kenmore, both of which have been around for many years. These companies and more have been manufacturing the likes of washers and driers, dishwashers, and ranges, but recently the entire industry has changed to meet the demands of more eco-conscious consumers who demand more efficient appliances at a reasonable cost. The manufacturer who wins the race to be the leader in sustainable appliances will likely enjoy the greatest success as time goes on. There could very well be multiple “winners” in this arena. The fact that importance is being placed on innovating energy efficient appliances is evident through GE’s Ecomagination program and the ubiquitous Energy Star designation given appliances that achieve a certain high standard for efficiency and environmental responsibility.
