The first thing a local public insurance adjuster should be is extremely knowledgeable about his/her job. A local public insurance adjuster should have knowledge of cost of building material, cost of roofing material, cost of material to repair houses or other buildings, book value of vehicles, and a good idea as to how much it costs to repair damage to a vehicle. Local public insurance adjusters, however, can specialize in just one area (i.e. property, automobile, personal, etc). Most of the public insurance adjusters who work for insurance companies are knowledgeable in each line of insurance the company sales. A local public insurance adjuster is the person who, when a claim is filed, will go to inspect a persons property or vehicle or handle a personal injury claim to someones homeowners policy. A local public insurance adjuster will be the one to have the final say as to how much the policy holder should receive on a claim. The only way to change that is if the policy holder files suit against the company. When a local public insurance adjuster must inspect a persons property, he/she should do a very thorough job before estimating what the cost of repairs or replacement should be. Therefore, it is not uncommon for a local public insurance adjuster to actually climb on a persons roof to inspect damage. Most local public insurance adjusters must go to schooling and then go to a training school also. Most local public insurance adjusters are only licensed within the state they reside. However, some local public insurance adjusters can go on to get licensed in other states so they can work for an insurance company that is also licensed in other or all states.
