Five or ten years ago, finding local vegetarian restaurants could be a daunting task. In order for a vegetarian to eat out, they would need to live in a big city like New York, or settle for a salad and/or french fries at a regular restaurant. Times have changed, business owners have recognized the need, and these days even small towns have local vegetarian restaurants or at least one. While many restaurants are now offering a veggie burger on their menu, who really wants to go to a restaurant that offers one option to pick from? Thats why the demand for local vegetarian restaurants has resulted in a booming industry. Vegetarians are often more comfortable eating at local vegetarian restaurants more so than a regular restaurant. Those who run traditional restaurants may mean well when offering a veggie burger, but they dont fully understand the vegetarian diet. Sometimes these traditional restaurants will cook a veggie burger on the same grill as a beef burger. They may serve their food with dressings and/or condiments that contain meat products. For example, a vegetarian cannot eat Cesar dressing because there are typically anchovies in it. These are things that local vegetarian restaurants will take into consideration when preparing food. A vegan has an even harder time finding food when eating out. Along with not eating meat, a vegan stays clear of egg and dairy products. Vegans definitely try to hunt down local vegetarian restaurants. Although the entire menu may not be vegan, local vegetarian restaurants will understand a vegan diet more than a traditional eatery. Local vegetarian restaurants typically offer a few vegan dishes and can also alter regular menu items to make them vegan friendly. Finding local vegetarian restaurants doesn't have to be a very hard thing to do. You just need to know where to look.
