As society evolves and economic problems continue without relief many turn to lives of crime to solve an immediate problem or long time lifestyle from lack of ability to control a darker side of themselves. Crime is in every community and every family the world over. It affects us in small ways from missing a few dollars from a wallet to larger, more frightening ways such as murder and other crimes. This creates a need for local correctional institutions. We are responsible for our actions and many times we must institutionalize others for crimes to protect the whole of humanity. There are many ways and many reasons for this and it's not to judge how harsh in time or death each should be, but to provide a facility to fit the crime to protect people from further crimes and sometimes to protect the criminal from himself. Local Correctional institutions come in a variety of forms: from the very basic to a high level of lock down and security. The first is Juvenile Hall. This local correctional institution is for criminals under the age of 18 years old who have committed crimes that require protection for society. They are placed with other underage criminals in a high security building. Next is the local city or county jail. They are usually one of the smaller local correctional institutions. Criminals are over the age of 18 years old and have committed crimes with time served of less than one year. Depending on the crime many of the criminals can serve their time at the county jail on weekends so they can maintain their normal jobs to support families.
