A golf course is an obstacle that consists of a series of holes; each has a teeing ground, fairway, hazard areas, and a green area with a flagstick and cup. A standard golf course has 18 holes but often times they have nine holes which the course is played twice, depending how wide the area is. Golf course construction is very complex for it involves careful planning of the location, the design of the golf course, proper vegetation, and the process of operations and maintenance necessary for the golf course to work. The first step in constructing a golf course is the site selection. You may need to secure at least 120-200 acres of land that is suitable for a golf course. The land must be zoned properly, has access to a water supply, and vegetation. Make sure that the presence and the types of ecosystem must be considered to ensure proper stability. Next is to hire a golf course architect so that he/she can build the ideal golf course based on the land that is provided. The architect must be a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects to ensure the legality and the professional background of the architect. The golf course architect must have experience in landscape architecture, civil and hydraulic engineering, agrostology, heavy construction, planning and specifications of the site, and cost estimating.
