An antique dealer will have a great deal of knowledge about antiques. They will have a good grasp of history and where various pieces fit with significant historical events. They will understand what aspects of certain pieces will get a better price. In order to be successful, an antique dealer will find a piece of interest and unite it with a buyer who wants it the most. There are several types of antique shops set up by dealers. If you live in a larger area, you might find some mega shops, with experienced antique dealers. In smaller towns, you may find that the dealers are more amateur, and their selection is more limited. Some antique dealers will have their shops open all year round, if there is enough of a market for it. Other dealers may only have their antique shops open during seasonal peaks, like tourist season. Of those, some only have their shops open on the weekends. These are really amateur dealers. Some dealers have no brick and mortar shops at all. They hold auctions where only interested buyers attend. This assures a good price for what they are selling. A recent trend has been to set up auctions on Ebay to sell their goods. Experienced antique dealers will be able to write up the best descriptions to attract target buyers.
