How it works is, you punch in your code, set the alarm, at this time it usually gives you a countdown of 10, 15, or 20 seconds to get out of the house and lock your front door before the alarm system will activate. Once you have closed and locked your door and the countdown has finished, the alarm will activate and stay activated until you deactivate it. When you arrive home, you will unlock your door and the alarm will usually sound a lower, higher pitched sound that will last about 10 seconds, giving you time to disarm the system, if you do not do this within the 10 seconds the alarm will then continue the alert with a very loud alarm sound that you can hear for miles.
