We live in a time when there are literally thousands of different churches to belong to. Many of these churches teach from the Bible, some teach from the Koran, and others teach from holy books that are sacred to their religion. One of the fastest growing churches in the world today is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or the Mormons. Mormon statistics show worldwide membership being around 13 million and increasing by about three to five hundred thousand each year through converts to the church. This is a staggering number considering the amount of Mormon racism that is out there. Most people have only heard bits and pieces about the Mormon population, and most of it is probably negative. The truth of the matter is that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is full of hard working and trustworthy people. They are good men and women who believe in Jesus Christ, and strive to live his teachings from day to day. If you visit any of the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint churches, you will find that they are not as strange as the media portrays them to be. They do not have multiple wives, and they accept everyone no matter what the circumstances. They do, however, have some very unique beliefs. The Mormons believe that Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are three separate and distinct beings. They derive this not only from passages of scripture found in the Bible but from a personal visitation of the Godhead to the prophet Joseph Smith. The church believes that God has once again reached out in love and restored his church on the Earth and chosen a prophet to lead and guide it, just as he did in days of old. One of the most criticized parts of the church, and the most prone to Mormon racism, is that of the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is a sacred volume of scripture of the happenings of the people on the American Continent during the same time that the Bible was being written. It is a record of a different people, but coincides directly with the Bible to give another testament of the Lord Jesus Christ and how God shows his love and mercy to people of every land and is no respecter of persons. It is a keystone of the Mormon religion and also is a direct way to find out if Joseph Smith is who he really said he was. If the Book of Mormon is a true record than Joseph Smith was a true prophet and the Church of Jesus Christ has been restored. If the book is false then so is everything else the church teaches. It is quite the claim, but the Church stands by this statement and challenges every person to find out for themselves.
