The term visual art is a broad term that can apply to a variety of different art fields. The types of art that are typically categorized as visual arts include drawing, painting, and sculpture. The visual art category was of course created to distinguish these types of art from the performing arts, which include singing, dancing and theater. Visual art goes beyond painting and drawing though. Other forms of visual art include printmaking, photography, film making, and now computer art as well. A print is a representation of an image that can be translated into physical form through painting or drawing. Photography is a form of visual art that might not seem as original and unique as creating an image through painting or drawing, but it still can be a beautiful expression of creativity. Those who are true artists can take photos that appear unreal and use lighting and other techniques to skew real images. Film making is a visual art that we all enjoy. Countless romantic relationships have blossomed at the movies. Filmmakers can take credit for many a first kiss. When we are going through hard times, movies can be a welcomed escape. Filmmakers have the ability to cheer us up or make us cry, either way they create a forum for the release of suppressed emotions. Filmmakers take words and spin them in an artful way; everything from set design to costuming incorporates artistic technique.
