Whether you live in a large city or a small town, there are usually more than one local ambulance service available. In most areas, these companies are privately owned and are not affiliated with the local hospitals that they serve. While in many situations, medical transportation is not necessary. However, in those times that they are it is good to know that you have a local medical transportation service available. When most people think about ambulance services, they only think about ambulances. However, many of these companies also have air ambulance services as well. And if the particular company does not, they are often affiliated with a company that does. Air ambulance services are usually only used in very rare occasions. More commonly known as Medivac, this service is used for someone who is in mortal danger. Or for the person who finds themselves at a local hospital that does not provide the services that are needs, and traveling by ambulance is not convenient. Not all situations that request an ambulance to the site will require medical transportation. Many times an ambulance will show up at an accident or house fire, just to check out the victims. If it is deemed necessary to transport, the EMTs will ask you, or another person, which local hospital you choose to go to. During transportation, the EMTs will keep track of your vital signs, as well as any changes that occur with your condition. They will record all pertinent information on a chart for the patient, and will give the information to the doctor once you have arrived at the emergency department of the hospital.
