Sports have never been more popular. Each year the number of local sports tickets which are bought increases. Major professional sports have always been successful, with larger cities often having one or more major professional sports teams. The greatest demand for local sports tickets is for major professional sports such as football, baseball, basketball, soccer or hockey. Professional golf and other lesser professional sports also produce a demand for local sports tickets. Now, however, it is not just major professional sports which are finding success selling local sports tickets. Minor league professional sports are growing in popularity every year. In the past, minor league baseball and hockey teams would struggle to survive, with sellout crowds few and far between. But in recent years these organizations have experienced growing sales of local sports tickets. The teams work hard to build loyalty in their communities and create a demand for their product. To do this, these minor league teams, which are usually an affiliate of a major professional team, seek to attract a wide and diverse fan base. They try to turn games into big events by offering special giveaways, music concerts before or after the game, fireworks displays, and celebrities singing the national anthem or other song. These marketing techniques have been hugely effective in creating larger local sports ticket sales. The popularity of motor sports is on the rise, too. There are usually several levels, from the top classes of car and motorcycle racing, to second and third tier series. Amateur events also are popular in smaller communities. They produce a local flavor and organizers are doing very well selling local sports tickets to followers of these sports.
