The United States Department of Agriculture plays a critical role in developing federal policy related to food, farming, and agriculture, and operates in a variety of faculties to promote trade, improve conditions for farmers, and ensure the safety of food and the resources that make it possible to grow it. It also broadly oversees efforts to alleviate poverty as well as aiding rural communities and seeing to it that sweeping policy decisions are implemented on a local and regional level. The USDA seal of approval is one that is ubiquitous in the United States and has come to be associated with top quality products. Just as is the case with all Federal, executive offices, the Agriculture Department looks after a broad diversity of issues and maintains a high level of responsibility, especially as it relates to ensuring the health and safety of United States citizens. As you might have already guessed, the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Agriculture is located in Washington D.C. For those interested in seeing what goes on inside the headquarters, it is possible to take a trip to the Visitor’s Center. The Visitor’s Center for the United State Department of Agriculture is located in the Jamie L. Whitten Building at 1301 Independence Avenue. This may only be something that appeals to someone with an interest in pursuing a career in government policy and other such things as they relate to agriculture, or for a person who may simply have a nagging curiosity to find out what really goes on behind the scenes in D.C.’s top Federal departments.
