Send and Receive Beer Using Your Smartphone with BeerGivr

Ever told a friend that you "owe them a beer" or that drinks are on you next time, but never really had a chance to pay them back for the drinks that you owe? Well now, thanks to a startup called BeerGivr, you never have to worry about not fulfilling all your beer promises.

Whether you lost a bet, missed a birthday party, or simply "owe" someone, Beergivr lets you send beer to your friends right from your phone.

Sending Beer

If you're the beer giver, just link your PayPal account to the BeerGivr app, set the amount of beer money that you want to send, and BeerGivr will send your friend a text message containing the gift code that they can redeem at participating bars to get their drink.

BeerGivr charges a convenience fee of 5% + $1. So if you're sending a gift amount of $10, you'll end up paying $11.50.

Receiving Beer

Are you the beer-taker? Good for you! Once your friend sends over the beer money, keep an eye out for a BeerGivr text message with a specific gift code. Take that code to any participating bar and redeem it for any kind of drink that you want. Even if you're not a beer person, you can still use your BeerGivr cash to buy cocktails or anything else sold at bar. If you happen to be at location that's not participating, you can always forward the BeerGivr money to your own PayPal account. (Still though, you have to admit that using the gift code for drinks is whole lot more fun.)

About BeerGivr

According to TechCocktail, BeerGivr is currently available in the Baltimore-area, but the startup is working hard to expand to other areas in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia. Apparently, the word about BeerGivr is starting to spread and businesses and users are becoming eager to participate.

All in all, I think BeerGivr is a terrific idea. Cash and gift cards are so played out, and it's refreshing to be able to send and receive money that's meant to be spent on drinks in particular. With that said, kudos to the BeerGivr team and cheers to their growing startup!
