Top 5 Geekiest Marriage Proposals of All Time

Old fashioned romantics may argue that technology sometimes strips romance and excitement off relationships. Love notes now come in the form of text messages, and delivering letters or flowers can now be done virtually instead of in person. They may have a point, but before you start thinking that technology is no match for good old fashioned romance, check out our top 5 list today, which is composed of 5 of the most techy marriage proposals that the interwebs has seen.

1. The Lolcats Marriage Proposal - Lolcats, those funny-slash-adorable cat pictures that are notorious for wasting the time of countless people in front of their computers, were put into good use by a guy named Jon in 2008. He took a photo of a cat with the caption, "hai thar, Loretta! Can Jon has yr hand in marridj" It was adorable. Loretta said yes, and the proposal photo was followed up with an image of Loretta hugging the cat, with a caption that reads, "I can has husband? Yes!"

2. The Google Street View Marriage Proposal (aka: Proposal 2.0) - Googler Michael Weiss-Mali had actually proposed to his then girlfriend Leslie. However, according to Michael, his proposal was low key and occurred during a quiet night at home. "And while Proposal 1.0 had plenty of sentiment, it was lacking in pizazz." So when he learned from the Google Street View team that Google Maps' car was running outside the search giant's offices in Mountain View, Michael decided to put together Proposal 2.0 where he showed up holding a billboard that read, "Proposal 2.0: Marry Me Leslie!!!"

3. The Banner Ad Marriage Proposal - Some users develop a "blind spot" when it comes to banner ads, but this one is pretty hard to miss. In April 2012, Scott Sklar decided to propose to Erica Plotkin, his girlfriend who worked as a digital associate media director of an ad agency. Erica got a message that there was a problem with one of their client's ads on BBC.com, and when she clicked on the URL, she was greeted with a couple of banner ads that read, "Erica, will you marry me?" and "You are the love of my life - Scott". Then at that moment, Scott walked into the room, got down on one knee and proposed.

4. The Infographic Marriage Proposal - AllThingsD associate editor Drake Martinet decided to propose to his girlfriend Stacy Green (Mashable's VP of Marketing and Communications) using an infographic published on Mashable. The infographic contains various data and statistics about the women on earth and how Drake fell in love with Stacy. In the end, it concluded with a "Stacy, will you marry me?" And she said yes.

5. The iPhone App Marriage Proposal - Bryan Haggerty proposed to his partner Jeannie Choe using an iPhone app that he built himself. The app, named Romantech, displayed a map containing various location points in San Francisco, and each point came with a video of Bryan giving clues on where to head next. The final clue led to Dolores Park, and this is where he proposed. And to make things even geekier, all the location points on the map connected to form the shape of <3.

Say it with me: Awwwww.
