Learn a New Language the Fun Way with MindSnacks

Being multi-lingual is definitely a great skill to have. Not only can you impress others with your sexy vocabulary, it'll also come in handy when you're travelling to that country. Not to mention that learning a new language stimulates your brain and improves your cognitive skills.

However, studying a new language can be difficult. There are tons of new words to memorize, you need to learn a different grammar structure, and for some people, studying a new language using books or audio materials is boring.

Thankfully, we have MindSnacks, a startup that gamifies the whole language learning process through fun and educational iPhone apps. MindSnacks has a collection of apps that can help you learn French, German, Italian, Chinese, Portuguese, Spanish, and English. (Note that each language has its own app.) They also offer a SAT Vocab app for those that are studying for their SATs.

How do the apps work?

The language games of MindSnacks each offer 6 games (and 50 levels) that are designed to build your foreign vocabulary, as well as develop your reading, writing, listening, and conversation skills. The apps are chock full of words and phrases (1400+) to help you master the language, and they also contain audio clips for each word or phrase to help you in pronunciation.

Each challenge is fun and exciting and is designed to allow you to have fun while learning. As you improve your skills and become more fluent in that language, you'll unlock more difficult challenges. The words and phrases are hand-picked and the lessons are designed by Ivy League instructors, so you can bet that you're learning from the best. Moreover, you'll be able to track your progress and improvement; MindSnacks apps have personalized learning algorithms to maximize memorization and retention.

The Sat Vocab app on the other hand also has the same high-quality algorithms, lessons, and games in it. But since it's designed specifically for students studying for the SAT, the app offers 500 SAT-level words to master along with audio clips. It has 25 levels featuring commonly tested words and you'll be able to learn each word's definition, antonym, and part of speech.

Who can benefit from MindSnakcs?

Their apps work for beginner and intermediate-level foreign language speakers, so whether you're trying to learn a new language for your trip to China, or simply want to brush up on the Spanish that you learned in school, be sure to check out MindSnacks.

To play, you'll need to sign up for a MindSnacks account. This will allow you to effectively track your progress as well as play on other devices. (Simply log in, and you're good to go!) This also lets more than one user play on the same device.

How can I download the apps?

MindSnacks apps are currently available for all iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad devices running iOS 4.3 or later. An Android version may also (hopefully) be in the horizon.
