For most of us, mid-August usually means that it’s time to say goodbye to summer, and brace ourselves for cooler temperatures. However, this year, iPhone fans everywhere are bracing themselves for an entirely different (but equally cool) event: the iPhone 5 launch. Rumors about the phone have been circulating even before the iPhone 4 was released, so you can bet that there are a lot of theories to sift through. Of course, it doesn’t help that Apple has been very hush-hush about the whole thing. No one has actually confirmed anything about the phone’s release date or its features. Nonetheless, several tech blogs and industry watch dogs are buzzing about Apple supposedly planning to hold a media event on either September or October, wherein the company will unveil the iPhone 5.
Yes, since the “ber” months are fast approaching, the rumor mills have been in overdrive, releasing one juicy tidbit after another regarding the phone. Just last month, 9to5Mac published a photo of what appeared to be a prototype of the iPhone 5. A tipster submitted the photo to the website, stating that while on board a train in San Francisco, he saw someone (most likely an Apple employee) “hunched over the device.” The image, while not the sharpest, clearly revealed the Apple logo at the back of the phone. If the device in the photograph was indeed an iPhone 5, then by the looks of it, the new iPhone will be thinner and will also have a larger display.
iPhone 5 Rumors: Looks
As mentioned earlier, word has it the new iPhone 5 could have a larger display. Mashable is 80% sure that the new iPhone will have a bigger screen, with the diagonal measuring between 4 and 5 inches. Analysts are pretty much on the fence when it comes to overall look and feel, though. While it’s been said that the iPhone 5 will “visually look like the iPhone 4,” with the new device possibly having a brushed metal finish instead of glass on the back side, others are predicting “a return to the curved back that went away with the iPhone 3GS.”
Better Camera
iPhone photographers, and Instagram fanatics definitely have something to look forward to. As Engadget put it, a camera upgrade for the new iPhone is practically “a no-brainer.” The blogosphere is shooting for an eight megapixel count for the device.
The iPhone 5 Speeding Up?
A lot of sources are predicting that the iPhone 5 will be much faster than its predecessor. It’s been said that the phone will probably have an A5 processor, just like the iPad 2.
There’s also a chance that iPhone 5 users will enjoy faster Internet speeds. According to BGR.com, “carriers are currently in the process of testing a 4G LTE-enabled iPhone.” Moreover, on August 15, an anonymous tipster sent Engadget a photo that supposedly shows LTE equipment installed at an unnamed Apple Store location. (Engadget initially published the photo, but later took it down at the request of the tipster.)
All will be Revealed
Of course, we can write, and guess, and speculate all we want, but only time will tell whether or not these speculations turn out to be true. There is one thing that’s not in debate though; everyone is expecting the new iPhone to be epic, and knowing Apple, it’s hard not to agree.
