Joseph A Christiano Jr, MD, is a functional neurosurgeon in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Christiano received his Fellowship training at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR under world-renowned neurosurgeon and pain expert Kim Burchiel, M.D. This unique training covered the full breadth of painful conditions, including post-stroke pain, facial pain, spinal cord injury pain and phantom limb pain. Dr. Christiano has particular experience in treating post-laminectomy pain syndrome, a painful condition that sometimes occurs after spinal surgery is ineffective. He works with local, regional, and national pain anesthesiologists and pain management physicians who have patients with difficult-to-solve pain problems. After earning his Doctor of Medicine at Hahnemann University College of Medicine, now Drexel University College of Medicine, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. Christiano completed his internship at the Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC. He went on to his Neurosurgical residency training at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Christiano completed fellowship training in Functional Neurosurgery at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Christiano currently holds joint appointments at the University of Arizona/ Banner University Medical Center and the Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System campus in Tucson, AZ.
